IMB Puidutoodete AS (the IMB Wood Products Inc) long-term partner as a supplier of wood finishes is Tikkurila OY.
It was established in 1862 and has since then produced high-quality and long-lasting paints and coatings. Strong emphasis is laid on the environmental aspects of production and painting. In collaboration with research centres and customers, Tikkurila OY has developed high-quality paint systems for finishing wooden exterior surfaces that include compatible and complementary ecological, water-borne products. Paints consist of materials that minimize the impact of UV rays, humidity and fungi and thereby guarantee the longevity of the construction. Carefully finished wooden surfaces maintain their good appearance for a long time and this in turn increases the value of wooden buildings and other outdoor constructions. Tikkurila OY has been granted the following certificates: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001, EMAS. By using the PINJA 2+ three coat surface treatment system, protection against more than 400 bacteria and mould species widespread in Scandinavia is guaranteed.

The finishing of IMB Puidutoodete AS products is done by hand, having an advantage over industrial painting lines. The finish absorbs into the wood better and stays on the board’s surface as a durable layer. Exterior siding is covered at least with three coats:

1. A waterborne transparent wood protection product AKVI WOOD PRIMER (absorbs up to 2mm-s into the wood , contains strong anti-mould agents)
2. A water-borne alkyd primer PINJA PRO PRIMER for smooth sawn timber and PINJA PRIMER for planed surfaces (can be tinted)
3. A water-borne outdoor paint PINJA PRO. It is advisable to repeat the painting process after the assembly of the exterior siding and after repairing damaged areas and painting nail heads. Tinting can be carried out according to the most widespread international colour cards (RAL, NCS, BS, MC NOVA, SYMPHONY, RR etc).

Colouring
IMB Puidutoodete AS paints its products in heated rooms where the temperature of the painted surface, paint and surrounding environment is at least +15C. Relative humidity is 55-70% and wood humidity is 18% at the maximum. The strength of the finishing layer and the period after which repair is needed depend on the paint system as well as the surface that is painted. For example, the surface of (smooth) sawn timber is usually more durable than that of planed wood. The amount of environmental stress on wood depends on the location of the building, proximity to coast, exposure to weather as well as direction – facing south or west has a greater negative impact. In case of the three coat surface treatment system, a need for colour repair might arise in 8-15 years.
